London based euphonium soloist Charley Brighton plays an original work by American composer Ken Friedrich. Malcolm Stowell was the accompanying organist This live recording was from one of the many free Saturday Lunchtime Concerts held at St. Mary's Parish Church in Slough,Berkshire,UK .

Mr. Friedrich originally composed this piece for 3 flutes and bells for his beginning band students at a private Catholic school.The piece was performed as a part of a Christmas concert in front of over 700 parishioners and parents. As a gift to Mr. Friedrich, Charley, who is friends with Ken,arranged this for solo euphonium and organ and then gifted him with this recording in December of 2004.

This piece has been arranged for several different instrument ensemble combinations including one for tuba quartet. The title for it was changed to "Winter Sonnet". The original arrangement, the tuba quartet and others can be found on Mr. Friedrich's web site along with all his other works.

Charley performed this on a Willson 2900 euphonium with a Doug Elliot component mouthpiece . The organ is a fine example of the traditional English instrument built in 1912 by Norman & Beard at 'old French Diapason' pitch of A=432 .
