  4. Hi Dutch Eupho,

currently playing an SM4U on my Adams e1 red Bell.

Was thinking about purchasing an AR Resonance Mouthpiece due to the talked about better ease of playing. And because i like the sound of Glenn van Looy a lot, but of course he plays a different horn and is a much better player.

I am only an amateur but I play for an hour every day. Currently I still have problems with my endurance in the upper register, but of course i try work on that. I had a long pause for some years and started again this summer.

Could you try to explain for me what you disliked about the mouthpiece exactly? You think it has something to do with the combination of the mouthpiece with an Adams?

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Hi,

I think it has nothing to do with horn mpc combination. Just with me feeling more comfortable on another piece. mouthpiece gave a lot of control in all registers.High range seemed easier to me on the GVL.

High range will for sure be easier on the GVL then on the SM4U

Feel free to contact me if you want to work out a deal….

  6. How did you like the sound on your adams with the GVL?

And what made the moutpiece feel uncomfortable?

What does your engraving stand for? Seems somehow familiar...

You didn't ask me, but I find the GVL a more pleasing sound for me than the SM4X (which I know is slightly different than the SM4U).

I also always have felt that the "U" series mead pieces were harder for endurance and high chops, but your experience may differ.

One additional thing to consider - when GVL originally started with AR, he simply used a standard medium top with his logo on it. Afterward, Tony and Glenn redesigned the cup to have more cup volume, and a darker sound. I'm sure there are "older" GVL MP's out there with the standard medium top, but I know that the piece we are talking about in this thread is the newer version with the deeper cup. Just a comment for clarity.

  8. Thx Mike, interesting comment! I was aware of the design change of the moutpiece through GVL. Do you prefer the older MPs over the "new" GVL mp? I guess they are more clear but as you say not as dark. I am thankful for every bit of knowledge, as you find only little info on ar resonance mps for euphonium in the net.

Found some japanese videos I listende to and another military euph player from belgium, cant remember his name. But I liked the sound of them all pretty much.

What MP is your favourite in general?

I prefer the "new" GVL to the standard M top.

I'm the worst possible person to ask about a favorite MP - I'm constantly fiddling with things, and making choices based on the rep on a particular program. I may have missed my calling as a trumpet player.
