For sale is a used Yamaha 642 compensating euphonium. This horn comes with the original hard case. I am selling simply because I have switched to a Willson; the horn deserves to be played instead of sitting in my closet.
It is in great working order: all slides move, valves work smoothly and have good compression. I had John Sandhagen in Los Angeles shorten the main tuning slide by a few millimeters, so if you blow low on the pitch, this is the instrument for you! The horn plays very nicely in tune, and I have used it in a variety of professional groups, competitions and solo recitals. Many a Bydlo has been played on this horn!
Cosmetically, it has a patina that could be easily polished away if you wanted, and a few scratches/small dings that I tried to capture in the images. The 2nd-valve tuning slide sometimes falls under its own weight if the grease is too light, so I keep it in place using a hairtie (a tech could fix this, but I actually like not having to worry about dropping it!). Please let me know if you would like any other images, and I can email them to you!
I'm asking $3,500 plus shipping. The horn is located in Ann Arbor, MI so I would be willing to meet someone reasonably within the local area. I would also be interested in trades for tenor or bass trombones, so let me know!
Thanks for looking!
