Thread: Would you rather

I have played the Wessex, have never played an 842, but in this hypothetical I would easily choose the Yamaha for the reasons already shared in this thread. Plenty of top pros play the 842 and I have heard some wonderful recordings from folks, I especially like Anthony Caillet's stuff.

That is not to say that the Dolce is not a nice horn, because it is. But I agree the easy choice for me would be the 842.

Is the Yamaha not doing something you want it to do, or are you just after a "new shiny"?

I am recently getting back into playing after a nearly 10 year break(long story) and I figured the Chinese copies would have passed the quality of a 15 year old instrument by this point. The Yamaha plays great

Passed? Certainly not. But many approach a pro-level of quality. They day we stop saying, "Great euphonium FOR THE MONEY" is the day they've arrived!
