This weekend I had the opportunity to participate in the Mid Atlantic Brass Band Festival. Minus our band, there were some excellent bands in attendance. SO much talent.
The biggest surprise was seeing not ONE but TWO of my former bandmasters.
Composer and Bandmaster Harold Burgmayer was the Divisional Music Director in Philadelphia for ages and then before retiring was teh bandmaster of the Chicago Staff Band. I played under Harold from 1989-1991(ish)
Ron Waiksnoris was one of my bandmasters when I was in the NYSB(Brian Bowen was the other). Ron is currently leading the Imperial Brass.
Lots of memories this weekend. Ran into my old friend Aaron VandeWeele and it was nice to catch up on our lives and how we are doing.
Overall the festival was a good time and learned quite a bit.
