    Band or Orchestra Pieces that Require a Euphonium Mute

    Use this thread to list the band/orchestra pieces that require a mute. If other than a straight mute, please specify the type!

    I'll add to this list as we get more entries. When a category gets really long, I'll spilt it out to its own thread.

    BAND

    • Schoenberg: Theme and Variations
    • Jan van Der roost: Dublin Dances
    • Itaru Sakai: The Seventh Night of July
    • Kevin Houben: Lake of the Moon (one passage with a straight mute and 2 or 3 with cup mute)

    • Aho: Symphony Number 9
    Band — The Seventh Night of July by Itaru Sakai. It has a short muted section. Not worth the effort!

    Brass Band pieces?

    I bought a mute about 17 years ago, but I'll be doggoned if I remember which piece it was meant for, except it was for brass band.
    U.S. Army, Retired (built mid-1950s)

    Boosey & Co. Imperial Euph (built 1941)
    Edwards B454 Bass Trombone (built 2012)
    Boosey & Hawkes Imperial Eb tuba (built 1958)

    Wind band: Lake of the Moon by Kevin Houben.
    iirc, features one passage with a straight mute and 2 or 3 with cup mute.
