History of the Jacob Fantasia Solo

Howdy hey, I had a question regarding the compositional ideas surrounding the development of the Gordon Jacob Fantasia solo. Outside of it being commissioned for the completion of Michael Mamminga's masters degree at UNT, is there any direct story or relation behind the notes? I'm wondering what creative inputs were used as means of possibly finding a deeper meaning than the notes on the page. Thank y'all

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm not sure if I've seen anything exactly like you are asking for, but there is a valuable article by Brian Bowman on the Fantasia, including some corrections to the score. You'll find it in the ITEA Journal, Volume 35, Number 4, Summer 2008, page 47.

If you are not yet a member, I highly recommend joining! The electronic-only subscription is quite reasonable.
