Thread: New Wessex Dolce ordered.

    New Wessex Dolce ordered.

I’ve ordered a new Wessex Dolce EP100 today in lacquer finish. As it’s currently in stock it should be with me soon.

I’m really looking forward to getting it as I’ve never had a new Euphonium before. Fingers crossed that it’s a good one.

Well, good luck with your new purchase. I own one just like yours, and I have been exceedingly happy with it. It doesn't get much use right now, but it did when I first got it as it was my only euphonium for about 6 months. I eventually got an Adams E3, but liked the Dolce so much, I have hung onto it.

Let us know how the both of you get along once you get it!!

Thanks John. I will keep you updated.

I’ve got to hand my band Meastro back soon as I’m too busy with work to give full commitment so needed to get my own Euph. I didn’t want to spend too much so considered 2nd hand pro models but decided on the new Wessex. I really considered the Sinfonica but perhaps I’ll upgrade to that in the future.

  4. I owned a Dolce, and it's a fine instrument. Make sure to clean it when you get it, especially the valves. You might want to clean it again after you play it a few times. I'd recommend using brushes and snakes and Dawn soap to make sure you really get the manufacturing oil out of it. I've bought several Wessex valve instruments and the valves all seem to need extra cleaning when they are new.

The Dolce arrived today and first impressions are everything I’d hoped for. Tone and tuning are excellent.

The valves are slow as expected, I’ve given it all a good clean and used a decent valve oil but the 3rd valve still keeps stopping half way every so often. Hopefully it will clear after a few days of use.

The finish seems very good, the only blemish is on the very bottom of the bow. It looks like lacquer bleed so I’ve sent a photo to Jonathan and agreed to just monitor it for the moment. Jonathan thinks it could be a bit of excess solder. It’s not obvious and being at the bottom isn’t really seen, my only concern is if it’s the lacquer it could go worse.

I’m liking the full Wessex logo on the bell. I’d seen other Wessex logos used so wasn’t sure which it would come with.

I will post an update when I’ve had the chance to spend some proper time to test it out but for now everything seems good.

Congrats on your new horn! It looks great. If there had to be any place where there was a lacquer blemish or bleed, I would chose the bottom bow for that.

Hope you have many years of prosperous music making.

Congratulations on your new Wessex Dolce!! What fun it is to get a new horn. And it looks like Wessex has changed their case. I got the Mr. Fluffy case which was about as big as a Volkswagen Beetle, but still functional. They seem to have moved to a different style of case that looks a little trimer (a good thing)!

Just clean the valves frequently for the first few weeks and they should be just fine. Enjoy the new horn. I expect glorious euphonium music will be coming from wherever you live in the great UK!!
