I just got back from ITEC 2023, and while there I tested the Adams Sonic and did an intonation chart. It's pretty impressive! You will find it here, and you can compare to the E1 or any other horn(s) in the list.

Yes. The E1 had a bit more solidity from behind the mouthpiece, probably because of the thicker metal and/or extra mass of the heavier valves. Given that, and given the really nice intonation trends, the Sonic is quite a bargain!Originally Posted by John Morgan

I don't remember seeing the 5-valve Sonic at the conference, either at the Adams booth or the Greg Black booth, which had a few models on display. It definitely would have been a very popular instrument though!
I think Matt Summers might still have the only one? There was a recent video he posted where he was using it on a concert with the Marine Band.

I know that there have been some 5-valve orders placed, and hopefully those will be out in the world soon! I've found that adding the adjustable heavy bottom cap to the 4th valve (with 1 extra silver weight) really tightens up the response, and gives a more linear feel to the upper dynamics.
The instant response in the low register is still (pleasantly) surprising after several months; I look forward to those triple-tongued low Cs on the Imperial March...
If anyone is on the fence about the 5-valve concept, and you're coming through the DC area, stop by for a demonstration or to try it for yourself!
