Thread: Besson New Standard for sale!

Thumbs up Besson New Standard for sale!

With the addition of a tuba to my stable, I no longer have room for two euphoniums, so I must part with my 1975 vintage Besson New Standard. I love the focus of the horn, love the satin finish and love the unique valve caps/buttons. It shows well for approaching 50 years of use. It has pings and dings, but I don't find any substantial dents. I've tried to take pictures of the worst of the defects. I recently had nylon valve guides installed by Music and Arts, and I've enjoyed how much they silenced the metal valve guide noise. I always found it odd that "New Standard" wasn't stamped on the bell, but have been assured that it is indeed a New Standard by folks that know what they're talking about. Valves all work smoothly, slides all slide as they should. I make no claims to be a musical instrument photographer, so I apologize for the quality of the photos... I think they do give a good idea about the condition of the horn.

I'll offer it here before posting it to eBay or Reverb to give you fine folks first crack at the horn. Price is $2900 and you'll pay actual shipping costs using the carrier of your choice. Horn has a large shank receiver but I will not include a mouthpiece, since you'll want to use your own. I use a Denis Wick 4AL and have always been pleased with the results. I don't have the original case, but I will ship the horn in a SoundWear gig bag, which is how I received the horn originally. I will, of course, pack it as well as I know how to prevent dents in transit.

If you don't want to have the horn shipped, you are certainly welcome to come on down to Central Texas to try the horn out and carry it home. Just PM me if you'd like to head this way.

Thanks for giving it a look.

    Pat

It went to Dillon Music, so anyone shopping their website might just find the horn there in the future!

  7. I went to Dillon Music a couple of weeks ago in search for a Euphonium for college, as I will be a freshman later this fall, and I ended up buying the instrument posted here. It's in great condition for it's age, and though I played around 7 or 8 of the other Euphoniums there, this one just stood out from the crowd. I instantly knew this was the one for me, and I'm really happy with it. Though it's funny to think that it's back in Texas now, as I live in the Dallas area.

Glad to see that it returned to the Great State of Texas! I loved the projection and focus of the horn, and the new nylon valve guides made a world of difference. If I had room in my stable for two euphoniums, I'd have kept it, but my new tuba pushed it from the nest. Where will you be going to college?
