Thread: FOR SALE: Adams E2 in Satin Lacquer

  1. #21
My thoughts are this. The brass band movement in the UK is in terminal decline in the UK, largely due to its obsesssion with contesting and obsession with the past. There are too many people who make a very decent living out of keeping it the way it is, despite all the signs.

There is no seat for me to go to, if I decided I wanted to play again. I'm not good enough to be a soloist, and euphonium and piano for me is distinctly unsatisfying. UK Wind and concert bands are dreadful.

Also the very fertile seed of doubt has been planted in my mind and I don't know if I could play under pressure (probably largely my own). That would ruin it for me. No, it's been a long and generally enjoyable ride, but it's time to put it to bed and leave it those who still have the enthusiasm.

Fair enough. I’m actually quite fond of concert band and wind ensembles… Here in the US, community bands are quite plentiful and accessible to wide ranges of abilities and time commitments.

Anyways, it appears someone is going to get their hands on a very nice horn!

Update! The third tuning slide appears to have been lost in transit, even though it was sent recorded insured delivery. You simply couldn’t make it up. Luckily I have been in contact with the wonderfully named Ruud Swinkels who knows what it was. I have asked him to price up a new one.

My hopes of a quick sale are now emphatically dashed. I am also prepared to negotiate on price, if anyone is interested.

That would be either Frans Swinkels OR Ruud Corstjens.

(Both are very fine Adams people!)

I should have known better than to assume Ruud was a unique name. Perhaps it is rather common in Holland. When I first played in the 44-member Coast Guard Band there were FOUR of us named Dave.

This naming confusion seems all rather "Rudd-imentary", Dave and Dave and Dave and Dave.
