    Besson 967, holding

    Hello,
I have a Besson 967. I am a short man. The bow tends to slip from my knee when playing. I have tried a cloth and small pillow. Is there anything made that can be attached to the bow like a cover that can keep it from slipping?

I hold my horn up with my left hand when seated (and also, obviously, when standing)…so my lap/knee is irrelevant. Does this not work for you?

    Using a strap is helpful.

Hi, I place the bow on my left leg and hold the instrument in place with my left arm. Yes, I have tried the strap. The point at which the bow touches the leg is a problem for me. The instrument slips now and then. Thanks for replying.

the QHR pillow cover is coated with a rubber-like texture that keeps it from slipping. It's not too expensive on amazon (if you are in the US at least).

I use the QHR lap pad, which is great for me because I need to horn to be lifted above my leg.

Mitch, if you need extra lift, I highly recommend the QHR page. However, if the height is now fine with it resting on you leg, then you might try a non-slip pad. If you cut a foot square (or so) from something like this, I think it could do what you want:

If I were you, I would lay it on my leg.

I have the QHR lap pad, but ended up not using it because it is easier for me to just hold the horn up while playing (I.e. the horn is NOT resting on my leg, it is elevated.)

If you do buy a lap pad from QHR, they also sell the straps… (although Valorie’s are cooler looking.)
