    Whisper tones

Is anyone using or have used whisper tones? I've seen it used on trumpet and trombone as part of the exercise routine, designed to help strengthen the embouchure and gain better control over soft notes. Done correctly, it sounds similar to the sound made when rubbing a wet finger around the rim of a glass. Not just a soft note, but a barely audible sound that's difficult to maintain.

  2. I use them every time I start Percy Grainger's "Colonial Song"... whisper tone G in the staff.

It's also something that can be practiced in band rehearsal if you've got fluorescent lights in the band room.

The 60HZ ballast buzz is a perfect Bb.
