Digital Rehearsal Hall - IVES Variations on "America"

I like to watch Col. Fettig and the U.S. Marine Band's digital rehearsals. I especially enjoyed watching and learning them work up Percy Grainger's "Lincolnshire Posy" last year since we were preparing that great piece.

Two days ago I was watching Variations on "America" (Charles Ives; orch. Schuman, arr. Wm. Rhoads) – a very challenging piece. Their principal trumpet player, MGySgt Kurt Dupuis, asked the colonel if they could take a section at a bit brighter tempo since he was playing the solo in one breath. Great playing by Kurt! Looked to me like he was using circular breathing. Not a lot of puffing of cheeks but just a bit so looked like a series of little breaths. But, maybe I'm wrong?

Here's a link to that portion

The Marine Band just uploaded a new digital rehearsal of RVW's "English Folk Song Suite". A real master piece by Mr. Vaughan Williams in my opinion.

Thanks for posting, love those links. The Ives one brought back very pleasant high school memories; the only time I've chanced to play it (fun euph part).
Iirc, Susan (1st trumpet) was only a junior, but she was always nails on solos, from first sight-read through all the rehearsals, except for the one and only recording :-(
