Double Bell Euphoniums - Best of the Best??

There is one guy with a Wessex DB every year at the Tombstone, AZ Tuba Christmas.

The smaller bell looks to be just over half the large bell diameter, and without exception vintage small bells are about 1/3 the size.

I have listened to him play both circuits, and can't really say there is a noticeable difference.

I'd pop for a restored/cherry older DB and live with the quirks they have.

The single bell version of this (2266) continues to be manufactured and is used exclusively in the Ohio State Marching Band.

I know we are talking double bells in this thread, but thanks for this information. I only recently in the last year or so learned that the Ohio State marching band played bell front baritones. I have found a lot of pretty fun videos with members of the baritone section on YouTube and I always thought their horns sounded cool. I suspected they were Kings, but glad to finally have the make and model confirmed.

IMO the best Conn's were 5 valve (short throw 30I or long throw 60I) front/front (ca. 1920s to 1940s)with the short leadpipe that connected directly into the valve block.

And if one had to choose between a 30I and a 60I, which would you choose?

I think that this is a matter of preference. All things being equal, I prefer the long travel valves so would choose the 60I. Dave W. obviously would prefer the short travel. Compared with typical modern compensating euphoniums, I find the long travel Conn valves (if in good nick) to be wonderfully fast. But that is just me.
