News from ABC Heavy Bottom Caps - Glenn van Looy

I just got this news from Chris at ABC:

Glenn Van Looy has VERY enthusiastically endorsed our Euphonium (4th) and Baritone (3rd or 4th) ABCs and the response from customers worldwide only after a few days of the announcement has been wonderful.

I'll post a video announcement from ABC below, which has a wonderful background track of Glenn playing "Eagle's Flight" by Wim Bex. Note that the cap is still the same, but with a special logo for Glenn. It's a nice-looking logo!

Glenn is touring in Japan currently, and Chris received this email:

My son (his name is Ikuto) had a lesson with Mr. Glenn Van Looy a few days ago.
At that time my son borrowed ABC from Mr. Glenn Van Looy.
My son quickly realized how good ABC was.
When my son installed ABC, my son was able to control the sound well.
Mr. Glenn Van Looy taught me how to buy ABC.
My son and I are looking forward to the arrival of ABC".

I have to agree with that student. The ABC has been on my horn for months now. The other day I thought maybe I'd take it off and see how the standard cap felt. That lasted a very short time, and I put the ABC right back on!

If you are wondering what difference it might make in output (vs. just the security the performer feels), here is a comparison video I did:

Cool. I bought one for the E3 I sold hand it went along to the new owner. I also bought one each for both the JP274 and JP374 horns I currently own.

Great company with great customer service.

Got a question for HBC users: They are said to improve centering the the pitch of individual notes. But there are times, especially when playing pop or gospel music, when I want to articulate two adjacent notes of the same pitch with a lipped dip in the pitch, rather than with a legato tonguing. David Vining has this in the cool-down sections of several of his Daily Routines.

Can you still do this with a HBC or AHBC?

Others can chime in. But since it hasn’t hampered my vibrato, I assume it would not be an issue.

I have not noticed any inhibition of my ability to bend pitches as you describe. I agree it's a valuable tool for some styles of music.

How long does it generally take for them to send orders out? I ordered one on the 6th and haven't really heard anything since...

I think they send them out in batches. Not sure if that has to do with limited (per order) production or simply available time to work on shipping out product.

It's probably too soon to worry. They have had a TON of orders from Japan in response to Glenn touring over there!
