    Getting back into playing after 10 years.... Used to play on an original SM4

    Looking for a new mouthpiece with good tone and upper register response

    Anyone messed with a SM5U or SM6??

    Welcome to the forum!

    You mention "good tone." Do you like your tone on the SM4?

    And for upper register "response"... Are your chops amply strong in the high range with the SM4? Is it only certain notes that don't respond well?

    The answers may help focus our responses.

    FWIW, I moved from a 4AL to an Alliance DC4. It is a bit smaller; it's easier to control up high; endurance is better; it has a more centered tone; BUT I lose a bit in size of tone and perhaps in maximum volume available. Mouthpiece choice is usually a matter of finding YOUR best combination of trade-offs.
