Reporting Spam Posts - Please Help Us Keep the Forum Clean!

Our user iMav just used a tool available to everyone so he could report a spam thread. I try to keep track of all posts myself, but it is very helpful when members report something suspicious, profane, or disrespectful. The thread he reported is now gone, and the user who posted is banned.

If you see something that does not belong here, just click the exclamation mark (inside a triangle):

Name:	Report Spam.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	21.1 KB
ID:	126776

Doing so will result in an email that comes to me, which has this message:

Name:	Report Spam Email.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	21.2 KB
ID:	126777

From that point, I have a few options. Usually a reported post is outright spam. In this case is was promotional spam (for a product or service), but in many cases it is a link to pornographic materials. For clear-cut instances, I use the following options in my control panel:

Name:	Report Spam Action.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	20.7 KB
ID:	126778

In the top 2 checkboxes I (A) delete anything else the user has posted, and (B) report this to other spam monitoring services.
The second set of options is where I can choose to keep the post hidden instead of deleting. I would use that if I were not sure a post was spam, giving me a chance to contact the poster for questions. For clear spam, I choose the "Physically remove" option and it's gone forever.
The last set of options is where I ban the user from any further activity.

So feel free to use the "Report spam" option if you think there is a problem. YOUR action can help me, but is does NOT affect the user. If you are in doubt, you can safely report something and let me make the final decision.

    Thanks!
