Rap Music - Not that New

Whoever recorded the first rap "song" might have been very proud for creating a new form of music. But I wonder if he/she knew that the concept started much earlier, perhaps in 1954 with this recording of Art Carney performing The Night Before Christmas. What do you think? Is my comparison fair?

Carney played the sewer worker Ed Norton in the Jackie Gleason show "The Honeymooners".

A major name in my young adulthood. It’s GREAAT, and the “in jokes” are a big part of the fun. Now I have to find a YouTube recording of Haliloke singing “Meli Kalimimaka”.

Wow, that’s pretty neat. I can understand Mr. Carney much better than many of modern the day rappers (78 rpm vinyl I noticed).
