Thread: 'In Gardens of Peace' - Philip Harper

  1. 'In Gardens of Peace' - Philip Harper

    Hello everyone,

I have just discovered that 'In Gardens of Peace' which was written for me by Philip Harper who currently conducts The Cory Band has been selected as part of the list of examination pieces for the ABRSM 2023 Euphonium Syllabus!

I really cannot wait to hear other musicians performing this incredibly special piece of music in the near future!

I just listened to your performance of "In Gardens of Peace" from your website. Really nicely done, very good piece of music and so tenderly played. Well done, Micah!

I have been working on this piece off and on for several months. Not being a very high level player, I am still quite a way from mastering the piece.

I would like to play it for family members some day to honor a great uncle who was killed in France near the end of World War I. He is buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial in France. A relatively little-known fact about that cemetery is that it is the largest cemetery for American ward dead in Europe. It is closely associated with the Meuse-Argonne Offensive of World War I. According to Wikipedia the Meuse–Argonne offensive was the largest in United States military history, involving 1.2 million American soldiers.

Attached is a photo of a flower arrangement that we arranged to have placed at his gravesite a few months ago.

  5. Hello Massmanute,

It is absolutely incredible to hear that you have been working on 'In Gardens of Peace'! I have visited so many Commonweath War Graves Cemeteries and American Battle Monuments Commission Cemeteries and I have been totally taken aback by the unique atmosphere which I have experienced during my visits to these cemeteries!

I have been rather lucky to have played 'In Gardens of Peace' at the place where my Great Grandfather is buried as an invited guest soloist for a brass band concert that was taking place in the church at Assevillers which was a very special experience to be honest with you!

I really hope that I will be able to hear you play 'In Gardens of Peace' in the near future!

  7. Hello iMav,

It may be working getting in touch with Philip Harper to see if he would be willing to create a version of ‘In Gardens of Peace’ in bass clef.

I really hope that everything is keeping well at your end!
