I believe TA = Top Action as you mentioned. Similarly, Willson seems to use "FA" for Front Action on their instruments. (ex. 3400FA-5, with 5 referring to the number of valves on the tuba)
My medium/euro shank 2900 is stamped with "2900TA-1" on the mouthpiece receiver.
BT I think is indeed designating "Bass Trombone" (large) shank. The Horn Guys have a listing for the 2900/2950 that has some info on the various letter designations:
