Not sure how used/abused Dillon’s demo units get…but it certainly looks to be in good cosmetic shape.

(and comes with the "velcro-able" mouthpiece pouch, so you can stash your mouthpiece(s) inside the bell (like Adams ships with their horns))

BTW. I am a FAN of this horn! It sings for me like no other horn I’ve ever played.
Regardless of where I settle in as far as my primary horn is concerned…I believe this one will be a keeper.

How does the sound and "singing" compare to your new-to-you Sterling Virtuoso?
Arnold (Arnie) Williams
Sterling Virtuoso Euphonium with Gold Brass bell (Capitol Pops Band, Capitol Pops Tuba Euphonium Quartet)
Yamaha YBH-831S Neo Baritone Horn (Joyous Brass, First Baritone)
Yamaha YBH-301M Marching Baritone (Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band and Temperance Society LMTD)
Yamaha YEP-830 Xeno Bass Trombone (Sacramento Concert Band)
Euphonium: DW Heritage 4AL (main); K&G 3D (Ophir Prison Band)
Bass Trombone: Ferguson M Series Jeff Reynolds
I would love to let you know. The Sterling horn is due to hit my doorstep this friday!
(I will note, that my PT-7C mouthpiece did NOT get along well with the Shires horn. Not sure if the gap isn't right with that horn or not (I know that Denis Wick mpcs don't line up well in Shires horns). Anyways, the provided mpc with the horn is quite nice and comfortable for me. I might give it a go with some of the other horns to see how it compares...or not. We'll see. )

Hi Larry, Shires makes a modular receiver compatible with Q41 that can be installed by a competent tech.... A variety of "bits" can then be plugged onto receiver by the user.
I remember Steve Vaughn had installed the Shires modular receiver onto his Q40 in order to optimize its response with an SM3U Wick mouthpiece -- if I remember correctly.
Perhaps Steve Vaughn can chime in with info on his experience with the subject receiver.

I've spoken with Steve about this very thing. When I was going to custom order a Q41, I was looking to have this added by Shires. However, they will NOT add it as a customization for the Q-series (40 and 41) horns. It does, however, come standard with the new Custom series horn. (which is why Steve was able to source it and have it added on by a third party.)
They will, however, add a trigger to the Q-series horns... Steve told me (and he can certainly expand upon that here), that while the trigger is useful for the Q40, the Q41's intonation is such that it is not needed.

Was back at band rehearsal today after over a week away. Not sure if it is a combination of being inspired at the DC workshop, enjoying the new horn, or what…but I feel as if I have taken a sizable step forward. Some of the more challenging sections we’ve been working on came easier to me, my stamina has increased, and overall things just felt better.
Whatever it is…I like it!
