Well, the last I’ll say is that there was no “pushing”. I believe I was respectful in my communications.

I strongly believe a company should be able to choose who they do (and DON’T do) business with. Their prerogative. It was not difficult to find someone else to take my money.

Hello Larry, just saw a freshly minted line-item in your salutations group.... Congrats for your new Shires Q41!

      Tell us all about it....

      * How do you like it overall
      * How it plays
      * how you would characterize its tone and intonation
      * How you would contrast it with your other euphos as well as with those for whom you have found new loving homes.
      * how is the Q41S's value proposition for you.

      Best, Guido

I was working on a custom ordered one (which would have taken 6-9 months)…but, those discussions fell through. So, I bought a demo unit from Dillion’s. (Who were amazing to work with, BTW!)

I am currently in the DC area for work…and the Q41s is on its way to my office back in North Dakota. I should have hands on it sometime on Monday.

Hehe... Yes, Dillon as some wonderful folks... In particular, I worked with Matt Walters for my Miraphone M5050 quest. Besides Matt having encyclopedic knowledge of matters low brass, he is a great consultant, and fab to work with. In addition, Matt has also a top rep as a repair technician.

But tell us all about your new baby when you receive it.

          Best, G.

Working with Dillion’s was, in many ways, a cathartic experience (coming off the previous issues with “the other guys”)…

In total fairness, I always found everyone at the "other dealer" to be equally a delight to work with.

Fair enough. Like I said before...It's their prerogative as to who they want to do business with. Just as it is mine to be open about my interactions.

Yes it is our choice whether we would like to work with customers. In the end (as I detailed on the Reddit thread you started) it was in the best interest of ACB to walk away from any potential transaction. I am happy to share this here online with the others but to me I'd prefer to close this chapter and focus on other things.

In addition to Dillon’s (whom I have done a lot of business through now), I want to give a shout out to The Mighty Quinn Brass and Winds. GREAT to work with and weren’t offended when we negotiated a bit.

Also, I actually wanted to hop on this thread to make a general comment/observation regarding US-based vs. European (mainly German) retailers. Recently, I was involved with a Willson 2900 purchase. It was a special quote for Thomann as they don’t stock the medium shank. At the end of the day, the price between Thomann Music and a US retailer was less than $5. (And the US retailer offered free shipping as opposed to $105 for Thomann.)

SO! I don’t know if the tide is turning or not…but, most certainly, much better deals are easier to find stateside then they were even six months ago. (And quite a contrast to a year+ ago!) Of course, this varies greatly from retailer to retailer…and overseas may still be better for some horns, price-wise (it certainly is for Yamaha!)
