Cleveland was its own small company between 1919 and 1925 when it was bought by HN White and it became like a student line for King.

Thanks, Barry, for answering the basic question.

The USCG Band had a couple of 1970's era King Cleveland that we used for marching because they were light, with 3 valves and less bracing than the higher level Kings.

A Cleveland showed up on eBay, in the bell front configuration:

  4. Pretty tempting to give one of those a go. I have multiple cornets and trumpets that are Clevelands from the 30's to the late 40's. One of them, from 1937 has great compression on the valves and is still my go to trumpet.

Perhaps that is why King acquired Cleveland!
