Thread: AR Resonance 'MDPS1' Mouthpiece

  1. How do you think the 26.4mm top vs the 26mm top differ in sound quality? I’ve thought about getting an AR Resonance mouthpiece and I currently play on a SM4U. Tony recommended the M top, but I didn’t know if moving up to the ML would have any benefits!

    Hello everyone,

It would be really interesting to compare the new Glenn Van Looy AR Resonance Mouthpiece to my own 'MDPS1' Mouthpiece in the near future. It seems that AR Resonance Moutpieces are becoming more popular in Europe and I am interested to see how AR Resonance will develop their Euphonium mouthpieces in the future.

    Hi Micah,

It sounds like the specs on your piece place it essentially as the standard M top with a backbore - assuming that is the case, the GVL to me seems a bit warmer/darker in characteristics. The bronze response is very very good.

The 26.4 feels bigger of course, and may have a slightly "broader" sound, although in my opinion it doesn't make as much a difference as from a wick 3 to 4. If you like the depth of the wick pieces, and want a 26mm piece, the new GVL piece by AR fits the bill, IMO.

  4. Do you know what is different with the new GVL model?

Take a look at my last post on page 1 of this thread - I posted what Tony (The AR Resonance maker) said about it.

    Thanks,

  6. Hmm it’s an interesting description, I’m just worried about dropping $400 on a mouthpiece I can’t test! I liked the sound of my SM4U, but it doesn’t quite work well with my new Adams. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the GVL though.
