English Besson 2051 allegedly owned by Demondrae

    All,

Here is an e-bay listing for a Besson 2051 not owned by Demondrae Thurman but owned by Patrick Shulz and played in Sotto Voce as confirmed by Professor Thurman.
Besson 2051 Silver Euphonium- Made in England- mint condition | eBay

I'm not affiliated with the listing but thought someone should get a shot at it if they were looking for something similar.

Thanks for posting this one. I "pinned" it so it will stay in the top group because I think it's very interesting!

I agree the price is high for a 2051, but for ME it IS significant that the horn was hand-picked at the factory by someone who knows their stuff. Bessons from England have been variable, and the best ones were/are excellent horns. The worst ones are worth avoiding. I guess the question for a potential buyer is, "How much is it worth to know you are getting an excellent 2051 vs. taking another horn for a cheaper price that may be less satisfactory?"

AND there is a make-offer button on this listing, so...

Do we have any independent verification of this? That's a lot of money for a used horn whose provenance is claimed only by the seller.

            Update from Professor Thurman:
"Hi Jacob. I hope all is well. I know this horn well but I didn't play it. It was played by my colleague Patrick Schulz. It's a terrific instrument and would be in great shape."

The power of "sleep on it" plus revelations as to its lineage (not that Patrick Schulz is a slouch) have made me come back to my senses (what little I have). But the temptation is there...

The person listing the item directly told me it was Demondrae's horn when I made a (fairly low) offer. That was wrong and I've informed him but I don't know if that will cause the price to change.

If buying the horn would imbue me with the Professor's talent, I'd be all in. Tragically that's not how it works...

Mike, I think Dave knows me pretty well. You suffer from the "hoarder" affliction, too??!! My illness extends to other instruments as well, sigh....

                        I'd report this to eBay.

This guy is milking a falsehood.

The ad says "previously played and hand selected by the Sotto Voce Tuba Quartet". If it was patrick's horn, that is true. I did reach out to Patrick via email - we'll see if I get a response.

I'll send you a photo of my studio - my guitar collection makes my horn collection look like a starter kit.

Unrelated to the ad itself, it's worth noting that this horn would have the "wider" 3rd valve slide spacing that makes accessing the 4th valve more difficult for some.
