    I think the nylon guides might be the better method. Franz's method may lead to pieces of epoxy inside the valve chamber if the epoxy can come off just by not inserting the valve carefully.

      All of my New Standards utilize their original brass guides (tacquets) but I do not experience unacceptable levels of metal-to-metal noise. Under my ownership, I have replaced the springs and added spring dampers which keep them operating very quietly.

                I replaced the brass guides with nylon ones: easier than expected. Thanks for the suggestions, in fact the epoxy resin applied to the brass guides worked well, but over time it tended to peel off and needed to be reapplied after a few extractions-reinserting the pistons.
