The Bach "Artisan" and my New Standard

I've played on an Artisan 5G for some time now, and find it much different than the 'regular' 5G.

So far, it's preferred over my Wick 4AL.

Here's the description from the Bach website:
Artisan mouthpieces combine the playability of Bach’s Classic inner cup dimensions with the softer rim designs and greater outside mass of his early mouthpieces.

According to my wife, the tone is fuller than with the 4AL.

My chops last longer with it, too.

How does it compare to the Curry 5G pictured above?

Hello HighPitch, I'd be interested in your own comparative impressions of the Artisan vs 4AL.... For what you hear, what are the tonal differences between the two.... High range, midrange, compensated region above pedal, pedal notes, sub-pedal compensated notes?

I had a Curry 5G. From what I could tell, it was identical to a Bach 5G. Neither was a good as the Wick.

The main difference from a regular 5G is a 'richer' tone with the Artisan. it's responsive to easier dynamic changes, and seems to allow me to fill the horn with less air.

The old standby 4AL does have a bit of an edge with fast articulation for me, but that is wholly a subjective observation on my part.

I'm not known for lightning fast tonging anyway, so it is a moot point here.

Thanks. I've always wondered. The Artisan sounds like a winner.

I've tried mouthpiece after mouthpiece, and keep coming back to my trusty 4AL. Glad this one is working well for you!

Woopsie, Just realized that my post was, ahem... Woefully Out Of Order.... Hence I am self-nuking it without further ado.... My apologies!

Hello Dennis, excellent idea.... I definitely would share my experience with the Artisan if I ever acquired one.... After all, I just recently waxed poetic about my new lovely DC4

Meantime, I'll continue to hope for enlightenment specific to Artisan from experiential opinions of fellow members.

                          Regards, Guido
