Thread: FS: ADAMS Marching Baritone - GREAT PRICE

Question FS: ADAMS Marching Baritone - GREAT PRICE

This is a marching baritone from Adams. It would have a .571 bore and a 10" bell. This one is in good shape and the price of $1,100 seems like a real bargain! The travel case shown with it is nice as well.

  2. Based on the photos in the listing, I think the seller actually has the Adams marching baritone, not euphonium.

Photos of both for comparison (sourced from the Adams Marching Brass website)

Regarding the euph, I do agree with you on how it played! I enjoyed briefly playtesting one a few years ago.

I see what you mean. I believe both are actually euphoniums (more or less, but they both seem pretty conical) and have the same bore. The baritone wrap is different and it has a 10" instead of the 11" bell of the euphonium. I'll check with the seller to see what the bell measures.

I was going to say the same thing. marching baritone isn't exactly like a british baritone, but marching euphoniums are much bigger.

The seller says he will get the measurement when he gets home. He also says it was "sold to us as a euphonium by Adams." However, I assume he got it from a dealer, and they are not always careful with terminology (and they may be confused as I was until I just looked at the Adams listings). I'll keep you posted.

I'm leaning toward something along the lines of what Barry said and thinking the marching euphonium may be spec'd like the old American baritone/euphonium instruments were.

I definitely think you're right that it's a good price. I'm severely tempted but I can't imagine ever needing one!

Seller measured the bell at 10" so I changed the title and description here accordingly. The fact that the baritone is over a pound lighter than the euphonium would make it easier to carry, and it would be a great jazz horn, too. (It is on my long list of horns I'd like to own but have absolutely no excuse for buying. I have a tenor horn that is this configuration and I enjoy the visual effect of pointing to the audience for some things. Makes me feel like Doc Severinsen!)
