    Pad bugs

Talking with a neighbor who is a sax player, I learned about pad bugs that attack woodwinds. Apparently they can infest a case if it's left unused for a lengthy time, but can also be a problem for the key pads on regularly used instruments. I've never heard of this being an issue with brass instruments -- am I correct, no issue?

I imagine your friend is referring to woodworms, the larvae of certain beetles. They can do tremendous damage to wooden instruments such as violins and guitars! They can damage a wooden case, but in the case of a brass instrument, the only wood would be corks in the spit valves and perhaps corks used for piston alignment. So your case may be vulnerable, but I wouldn't worry about your instrument.
