Early Sterling Euphonium for sale (£1,995)

    Hello all,

I'm not familiar with this model of Sterling. I was browsing and came upon this listing being sold overseas. I wanted to make sure everyone has an opportunity to check this out and decide on this horn for themselves! That seems like a steal!

Not a steal, but a very fair price, I think.

Oh ok. Mr. Werden could you inform me a bit on this model of Sterling and how it compares to say a Virtuoso?

According to the builder, there is no hard-line difference between this one (the model 1065) and the Virtuoso. The Virtuoso was branded when they realized that year-to-year improvements have justified a new name, plus they added some trim and a trigger.

The 1065 has a fine, British sound and intonation that is a little better than the Bessons of the era. Response was slightly better than Besson as well (I switched from a Besson 967 to the 1065 in about 1990). The 1065 has stainless steel pistons. The owner/designer of Sterling had previously been the production manager at Besson, so there are similarities to Besson.
