    Geneva Baritone

Looks like Geneva recently released a baritone horn for their Oldroyd Cardinal range:

Interesting design, non-compensating 3 valve, with a unique main tuning slide trigger activated by a piston where a 4th valve would be located on a normal 3+1 setup.

I'd be keen to hear how it plays!

It's been out almost a year, the only player I know of using one is Steve Ridler in the Fairey Band. Given the unusual design it might be difficult to find converts. Almost all of Black Dyke is playing Geneva instruments now but notably the baritone section there appears to still be on Besson.

I noticed that too about Black Dyke when they shifted sponsorships to Geneva, though at the time I figured it was just because Geneva hadn't developed a baritone yet. I don't remember seeing any announcements for it, but given the whirlwind of events from the past year I could have just missed hearing about it!

tuning trigger seems to use something like a bicycle cable for the linkage which is a nice solution I wish more brass instrument makers would look at.

Thank you for the links Barry! Much appreciated and nice to see more about the horn.

I agree about the trigger design. Seems much more lightweight compared to the usual paddle and ball-joint linkage that's typically seen.

I guess one of the advantages of having a trigger as standard compared to a compensating system is that you take away any additional resistance created by the compensating system, along with some notes being on the flat side because of some compensating loops being slightly too long (in the 2nd valve especially), thus making response more even?
