  1. ACB Doubler - Series 4, Episode 2 - Merry Christmas!

    Hi all,

For each of the last 10-15 years, I have had a brass quintet play Christmas carols at the local family rub Ace Hardware for their annual Christmas Cheer on Christmas Eve day. Alas, this was not to be this year.

However, since the Santa Sleigh (local Fire Dept) was scheduled to appear at the end of my road at 5:55P, I invited the neighborhood to my driveway for live Christmas carols at 6:15P. Performed with an open window from my family room to a small driveway audience, the following is that concert. I performed using the ACB Doubler. It plays with a nice open sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NiLfUIKEKw

I will provide more details on playing the ACB Doubler in the next few days. Merry Christmas All! Stay safe and stay well!

Thank you so much Doug for the Carols Concert!

What mouthpiece were you using on the ACB eupho?

    Merry Boxing Day to all!

    Guido,

I was using a Wick 4AL. Same as I use on my other euphoniums. While I tried a DE 103EuphJ9, Wick SM4X, and Alliance E3, the 4AL is my daily go to mouthpiece. The only other I will try is my Bach 5G. I think this horn will respond well to a slightly smaller mouthpiece.

Thank you Doug, 4AL is also what I use on my Wessex Festivo... This mouthpiece as a "standard Candle" of sort, helps me to have a better idea of the ACB's tonal and intonation character.

  6. I haven't played it in a large room (the recording was in the largest room in my house). All in all, I would say it is close to my 300mm Sterling, perhaps not quite as smooth, but about the same darkness. Not as expansive as my 12" Adams E3.
