My wife saw this obituary today. Ms. Weldon was the first woman to play tuba with a major orchestra in the US.

Ms. Weldon will be dearly missed. A giant of a player and wonderful teacher. I had the pleasure of meeting her in 2002 at ITEC in Greensboro, NC when she and Winston Morris held a forum on tuba - euphonium ensemble playing.Rick Floyd
