Here are a couple Air Force musicians playing Over the Rainbow. Unusual instrumentation for a duet - an electric guitar and euphonium, but it is really lovely.

You bet, Rick. I guess I sort of locked onto that piece as Over the Rainbow is one of my all time absolute favorite tunes. So much so, that I can play it in any key (usually without mistakes!).

I think Dave will appreciate this rendition on euphonium as well, because I know Dave likes to play some pieces with a little bit of jazziness and expression. This guy just made that style look and sound very easy. I wish I had a whole album of those two together.

You are correct about me liking it! The combination of electric guitar and euphonium works quite well. I've never had the chance to try it.

Dave - those are great!! Would love to hear you on Over the Rainbow and Summertime if you ever get the chance to record them. The AF fellow was playing Over the Rainbow in C, not the key I usually play it. I tend to doodle with that piece in concert F or Eb mostly, and mainly when I am warming up and want to play a melody. But, after listening to him, the range in the key of C on the euphonium was quite nice. And the low C at the end was too cool. I'm going to keep your playlist Dave and listen to all of them.

I play trombone, but am not an ad-liber. Didn't grow up playing trombone or in any jazz bands. I do have a lot of time playing in big bands and love playing ballads on trombone. You can still play big band stuff and other pieces with some jazziness and style without being a full on improviser. Guess I'm one of those players that needs notes (that is, until I memorize them!).
