    WTB Besson 3-valve Compensating Euphonium

Searching for a Besson New Standard of pre-1974 vintage (1960ís vintage preferred) with a medium (european) shank mouthpiece receiver and in similar overall, original condition as the horns shown in the attached pictures.

If you have a horn as described and are ready to sell or know of/see one for sale, I would appreciate you sending me a private message.

    Thank you!
    David

    Here a couple possibilities:

This one might be a bit older:

This one is in silver. It needs a little dent work and a new bell-screw fitting at least:

They are a bit rare - I'm surprised to see 2 for sale at the same time (plus a couple more that have front valves).

  3. The pictured horn in the OP's post is exactly what I marched with in the Cal Band from '71 - '73. Great sounding horn and beautifully made with satin silver and gold wash bell. I think the horn I used was "thrown in" to the deal when the Cal Band purchased a full set of eight (or maybe 10) BBb Sousaphones in frosted silver with gold wash bells. The Besson USA guys were trying to get the band to purchase matching euphs. Tough as nails with heavy brass, and damned awkward to march with. The bell points in when you are at parade rest. You have to flip the horn around your body to bring it to playing position, and most of the weight rests on your thumb with just a thumb hook, no ring or cross bar.

I've seen at least one that I can remember recently, but silver is going to be hard come by on the front bell model.

Thanks for the link - the serial number indicates it is from 1965. When the horn was first listed a while back I contacted the seller regarding the mismatched valve caps (bottom caps are New Standard but the top caps and buttons are not). The seller stated that’s how the horn came. So based on the horn’s condition I will continue my search.

    Thank you again-
