U.S. Marine Band rebroadcast live now!

I just stumbled on this excellent program by the Marine Band (The President's Own). It's a rebroadcast from 2018. The second half is about to start and Hiram Diaz is going to play, "Original Fantasie".

If you missed the rebroadcast you can find the archive at link below. If you have your browser set to automatically play the next video and start on the National Anthem or Welcome, it will play the whole program.

(you can just watch separate pieces if desired)

Thanks, Rick - that is a great performance, one of the best live performances of this piece I've ever heard.

For convenience, here is JUST the Original Fantasy (but the whole concert is worth watching):

Hiram's performance above IS the best live performance I have ever heard. One tuff solo, long, high, low, fast, faster and then really fast. Great job, Hiram!! I plan to play this piece next year, and Hiram is the standard I will attempt to emulate. I like the look on Hiram's face after the first part of the finale and right before the presto part at the very end. He had a warrior look on his face like "Man, I just killed (good) that last part!" His ability to breathe and not miss any notes and go really fast in the finale is amazing. I will surely have to leave off a couple notes in order to get a breath. I have an arrangement of this piece for euphonium and wind band by Neal Corwell (former U.S. Army Band euphoniumist). It cuts down on the band interludes some and makes it pretty playable for most any community band (the accompaniment that is). It also takes out several places where the soloist could rest (from the original arrangement by Mantia). But the solo is pretty much the same, if not a bit harder in a couple spots. I can only hope to come halfway close to the level of Hiram's outstanding performance.
