One person duets, or quintets (!) looking 4 a microphone & home recording programme..

Hello, I trust all is well in these upsetting times. I am looking to record an euphonium duet or something with more voices involed with my new band mates, Me, Myself and I (!!!) . Obviously it will be just me and my euphonium and I was looking for an amateur home recording set, e.g a microphone to pick up a better sound than my telephone and then a programme to put the pieces together on the computer. I think you can probably tell I am a novice at doing this and have no experience in music recording but I thought it could pass the time and also learn from it by playing different parts. I was thinking of doing some of the arban duets, I have seen other musicians do this online and effect is quite nice when the same musician is playing the top and bottom part together in the same frame. I don't have a budget but obviously not too expensive.

I talked with Dave a little bit and ended up buying the Canon Camcorder (great) and the Audio-Technica stereo microphone. I also got the Nero software. So you would invest $500 or so to get it all. Not cheap, but then again not awfully expensive either. That is great gear. Using the AT mic plugged into the Camcorder works really well. And this mic records the euphonium pretty authentically. I love the gear.

A key factor to success is making sure your recording has a manual-record-level option. My Canon camcorder does, but I don't know if all/current models do.

Here is a video that will show you why this is important. When you get to the 2 playing samples at the end, you should know they are the same session. In the first I used the iPhone's audio and in the second I used the Tascam's audio, but I only played it one time (to make sure there was no inconsistency):

And these microphones would be an enormous improvement over the built-in mics. BTW, I would NOT get an attachment that mounts mics to the camcorder if you can avoid it. You may want/need to have the camera and mic in a different position. In order of increasing price:
