I haven't played a euphonium in about 40 years, my oldest son is a trumpet player in college and talked me into playing. I bought a used plastic one and I found out I missed playing, I bought a Wessex dolce and I really like it, my wife even tells me to leave the door open when I'm practicing. I'm very glad my son talked me into it, now to get good enough to play with him.

My cat leaves the room pretty fast when I practice, but my 13 year old dog hangs out with me. He is about half deaf though.

Jazz (see my photo) is almost completely deaf and he cheerfully curls up near me when I practice. Sometimes if I'm doing range exercises he'll lift his head when I try going above C5.

Both my dogs, Myles and Ben, are pretty unaffected by my playing, generally falling asleep on the couch when either myself or tuba quartet rehearse in the other room.

My Siamese comes and sits directly at my feet every time I practice. Such a discerning cat! What refined taste! Oh, and he also likes the treat he gets for such loyalty! .

We have cats. Zazu the torty leaves the room, but she's not panicked; it's like she remembered something else that she had to do. Fiona the odd-eyed white is deaf; she couldn't care less.

My favorite dog at rehearsal story: Carl the drummer used to play with one head on the bass drum, the other side open and a pillow stuffed inside to dampen vibrations. So the band was rehearsing at my house, took a break, and unbeknown to us my little long-haired dachshund Max got into the practice room and curled up behind the pillow. We came back in, and no one noticed Max. Carl sat, did a warmup on the snare, hit the bass drum pedal - and all of a sudden, with a little affronted "yip," Max ran out, turned around and glared at the bass drum...

That's because Dachshunds as a breed love to dig in and cocoon themselves inside anything. My two dachsunds always end up together asleep inside small and tight spaces.
