Willson 2704 - reasonable asking price

What is a reasonable asking price for a Willson 2704 in excellent condition? Approx 20 years old. 4 Valve. Non-Comp. Despite being told on here that I probably didn't really need a compensating horn, I bought one anyway. I got a Packer 274 a few weeks ago and am really liking it so far except it is way heavier than what I am used to. Would love to sell the Willson.

It's always a guessing game to some extent! Here are 2 listings from the For Sale section which might give you some hints. One sold for $1,500, and the other did not sell at that price.

I ended up selling mine on ebay for $1200. I might've been able to get more if I'd been more patient, but I really just wanted to make the sale (I recently saw the guy who bought that horn from me trying to sell it himself on ebay for $1500, but no one was biting). Yours seems to be in better cosmetic condition than mine was, so maybe you'll have better luck than me?

I listed it on ebay with an opening price of $900 and a buy it now of $1,500. I had emailed a guy at Dillon's about maybe selling it on consignment and his response was "The Willson 2704 is like the most expensively decorated 1 bedroom house in a bad neighborhood with bad schools. Nobody is looking to pay top dollar for those." I guess the flood of cheap Chinese compensators has driven the price of non-comp horns way down, which is a shame because it is a great-sounding horn.

Ebay listing here if anyone is interested:

I have to roll my eyes at that sentiment just a bit. I get that they're speaking specifically about the market, but it's all perceived value. IMHO it's a better doubler's (or jazz) horn than a chinese compensator. And Willson builds their horns like tanks.

I have been on the Packer 274 for a couple of weeks now. It is a very nice horn but dang is it heavy compared to the Willson. And getting used to playing 4th with the left hand is a bit of a challenge.

I think much of the weight difference is the compensating system. It makes the valves longer and adds a bunch of extra tubing.

FWIW, probably the lightest compensating euphonium you can buy is the Adams, but it might cost just the teeniest bit more than the Packer! FWIW2, I'm working on getting an Adams Sonic for testing. That should be a cheaper option that still has many of the Adams' qualities.

I think I have it sold for $1,200, which includes about $75 shipping, so say $1,100 for the horn. I paid $1,800 in 96 or so, so that's really not too bad.
