Thread: Hirsbrunner 378?

  1. Hirsbrunner 378?

    Hi everyone,

So I made a post a week or two ago:
    http://www.dwerden.com/forum/showthr...BS479?p=153672

Which was just trying to gauge if anyone had opinions on the Hirsbrunner 479. Sadly, someone much closer to the store picked it up a few days ago before I had a chance to go back. The store is now selling a HBS378 from the 90s(?) with the serial number 090201. It also has a first valve slide trigger which looks it can be pushed down with the left hand when you're holding it. From what I can tell in the pictures, the silver seems to be in very good condition. It's about $1000 less than the 479, and I'm going to have a look at in a few days. I'm going to be bringing my current horn which is a slightly beat up Imperial from the 60s that I got on eBay a few years ago.

What I'd like to know is how does it stack up to the 479 / other horns? I couldn't really find many comparisons online between the Hirsbrunners. I heard that the 378 is a brighter sounding horn overall (due to the bore size?), but are there any other key differences like bell size? I just want to know if there's anything I should be aware of when I go to try it out. I'm a little scared that it won't match up to the experience I had with the 479.

    Any input is really appreciated
    Thanks

After a little bit of trial and error, I think I uploaded some pictures of the HBS 378 they had available.

  3. I do not know what the difference between the HBS378 and HBS479 are. This horn has the screw in receiver, so you can use small, medium or large shank mouthpieces. I am pretty certain that the 1st valve slide trigger is NOT OEM, but it appears to be nicely installed. The horn appears to be in very good condition. As near as I can tell, it has the Bauerfeind valveset.

Maybe someone here knows Hirsbrunner better than I can comment more, but I think the only way to know more about this horn is to go try it and bring money in case you like it.

  4. I bought a 378 in about 1995, and a 479 about 10 years ago. I sold the 378 shortly after buying the 479, and have always regretted it. The 378 has a smaller bore through the 4th valve, and it has a different feel altogether. The 479 feels and plays like a larger horn, which is not necessarily what I wanted. I currently play an Adams E1 euph, and the Hirsbrunner seldom gets used. Intonation on both Hirsbrunner horns was excellent.

  5. What store is selling this Hirsbrunner?

If they still have it, it’s being sold by Tim’s Music in CA, I know as I was the one who purchased the 479 they had. They are superb people to work with, I asked for pics of both horns and had them within 10 minutes. Send an email to Bailey Neumiller, she’ll take care of you.

Ok thank you for the info. I emailed them about it. Also I sent you a pm if you do not mind checking it out.
