    Euphonium with Freddie Hubbard

Freddie Hubbard is one of my favorite jazz trumpeters. He had a gentleman named Bernard McKinney on his album: "Readie for Freddie". Its a great album. Check it out!

    Freddie Hubbbard (trumpet)
    Bernard McKinney (euphonium)
    Wayne Shorter (tenor sax)
    McCoy Tyner(piano)
    Art Davis (bass)
    Elvin Jones (drums)

Freddie's comments about adding Mr. McKinney
He also explains his inclusion of Bernard McKinney on euphonium, an instrument best thought of as offering the control of a valved instrument like trumpet or tuba but sounding like a trombone. Nat Henthoff reports that: "(Freddie) Hubbard chose McKinney and his valved horn because he is beguilded by the sound McKinney gets from the instrument and also because the chordal requirements of the music for this date suggested the cleaner, swifter euphonium over the trombone."

He also played trombone (no surprise), and later changed his name.

Thanks for posting. Anything with Freddie Hubbard is outstanding, especially if there's a euphonium in it.
