Thread: Music for an audition

  1. Music for an audition

I am auditioning for a summer music school in January. Along with scales and the stuff for an audition, we have to pick out a piece to play. It must be a short piece (<2min) that is a solo for euphonium with no accompaniment. Do you have any recommendations on a piece to play?

    Welcome to the forum!

So can you give us a little guidance? Would you like slow & pretty or fast & flashy or...?

What is your dependable range? Do you double tongue or triple tongue? Anything else we should know?

  3. I’m looking for a slow, lyrical piece. Nothing involving double or triple tounging, but my dependable range is up to a high C.

Well, for starters I'd suggest the Sarabande movement from Bach's 5th cello suite. This version is too long, but you could take out one of the repeats (2 sections, each one is repeated).

Or the Last Rose of Summer (from the Arban book slow melodies). You can extend it beyond this slightly truncated version by repeating the last phrase.
