Euphonium Hard Cases: MTS or SKB

I've been thinking about this since picking up the Sterling Euphonium I have. It came with a hard case, but it's probably close to 20 years old, and more importantly, seems to be held together by dryed out duct tape. The interior compartment for holding items is long gone. It definitely was a quite nice case when new, but the years and apparently junior and high school abuse have taken their toll. It's entirely laminated wood construction, and I was thinking of trying to re-vinyl the outside. However the wood under structure is not really structurally sound. Below is the current state:

So, it seems for a hard case, my two real options are the MTS or the SKB. I definitely like SKB guitar cases, which are nice, and their case looks to be quite streamlined in size. On the downside, I don't see any type of interior compartment to hold anything. The MTS is more roomy inside, and I can test for fit down at Dillon Music. It's also got a nice compartment inside for the usual things like a mouthpiece, oil, rag, etc.

I know some are big on gig bags, but bad experience with guitars and trombones in bags has led me to really prefer hard cases most of the time.

Saw an SKB case on EBay for what I think is a good price. I don't know if your horn would fit inside it, but it is a place to start looking. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SKB-375-Uni...1&isGTR=1#shId

Note that the "economy" shipping on this ebay item is nearly $200.

The same item new, is $241.99 from Amazon with free Amazon prime shipping.
Woodwind Brasswind has it at the same price with free ground shipping.

Yeah, in this case I think the eBay offer is not good. I'd look at either of these for the free shipping. Comes out cheaper in the end.

Yeah, I guess you (Dave and Will) are right. Somehow I missed that the shipping was that high. It works that way on Ebay sometimes; what you "save" on price is made up for by a higher number for shipping.

So for anyone else reading this, feel free to disregard my previous post about a good price for a case.

I'm still torn on MTS vs the SKB. Not having a storage compartment in the SKB is a real detraction. I like to keep everything I need IN the case.

I may go down to Dillon Music this weekend to see if an MTS case will fit.

Of course If I go down there I might end up buying a bass trombone, so there is risk involved.
