    WTB Wessex Mighty Midget tuba

Looking for a BBb Mighty Midget. I am an older player and would be new to tuba. Looks like a size I could handle since it is around the same size as a baritone.

You REALLY REALLY should read this entire thread before you make any decision about the Mighty Midget: http://www.dwerden.com/forum/showthr...to-get-back-in

Note that even Jonathan at Wessex is disinclined to recommend it for the sort of use you seem to have in mind. While the small size is the point of initial attraction, there are some other important things to be considered -- and several alternatives that would be similar in terms of cost and "handle-ability"

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. I have played baritone for two yrs in Tuba Christmas and would love to play the tuba part for a change and challenge. That’s why my interest in a small tuba that I could handle. What are the alternatives? I’m open to suggestions.

Take a look at this one. Inexpensive and compact for an Eb tuba.

Ditto what Dave said. I own the Eb Bombino. It is a great tuba for a great price. The lacquered version is just a couple hundred more than the Mighty Midget.

If you are reluctant to learn Eb fingerings, keep in mind that it is in fact quite possible to play the Tuba Christmas Tuba 1 part on a 4-valve large-bore euphonium. I've done it several times on my Mack Brass euph. But even if you have a euph you can play it on, you might want to get a slightly larger mouthpiece for that task -- and then work on your low register.

Otherwise, if you just view this as a kind of "fun horn" to be used now and then, take a look at the used and new BBb tubas on the Jim Laabs site: https://www.jimlaabsmusicstore.com/store/tubas/. You might find a small light BBb horn there in the same price range (or less) than the Bubbie.
