Thread: Used Yamaha 842 Price?

  1. Used Yamaha 842 Price?

I’m looking to buy a used Yamaha 842s Custom and there’s someone selling it used for $6500. He apparently has only had it for around a year. Is that an ok price? And if not, how low should it probably be?

Does it have a trigger? If so, a new one is about $8500 at Brasswind:

And $6500 would not be too bad. I'm not sure how much cost the trigger adds, but it is possible an 842 with no trigger would not be a great bargain at 6500.

  3. Check the "quinntheeskimo" prices on eBay. Sometimes he has an 842ST for sale. If used or demo or return stock, they will be less than list price and near new. He currently has a silver NEO with trigger for $4,999, which is $2,000 under "in the box new" price. See: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Mode...sAAOSwxc5cw1Il

PS I have purchased instruments from this gentleman in Seattle, and he has provided very good service to me.

If the OP is the same person I've seen elsewhere who asked the same question, it's a Custom without a trigger. I think at that price, it is a little high.

  5. Well I will say that I'm extremely new here(just made my account yesterday), but it is correct to say that I'm referring to a model without a trigger. I'm in contact with the owner and I'm able to bargain with him. What price should I try to reach for?

There is no "book" for these things, so I'd suggest you see what a new one would cost. Then you can make your own decision: do I want to save ($1k... or whatever) or would I prefer a brand-new item?
