Thread: FS: Besson New Standard - Silver - Nice

Thumbs up FS: Besson New Standard - Silver - Nice

This horn was owned and played by James Curnow (yes, that's the person you are thinking of!). It is from the mid-1960's and was completely re-done in the 1980's, which is when the original lacquer was stripped and it was silver plated (bright finish). The original leadpipe was replaced with one that took a large shank mouthpiece. A leather gig bag (probably an old Reunion Blues). A Wick Heritage 6AL mouthpiece is included. The photos are not great, and I asked for better photos. I'll update here if they show up. Price is $2,500, which is a very good price for a horn in excellent condition (as Mr. Curnow says it is). Shipping is only $35.

Congrats Nick! Surely a great deal. I was tempted myself to get this gem.

Thanks guys, I figured given its condition, the price and the large shank receiver it would be a winning deal.

Money from the sale is going to a good cause, by the way:

Wow, that is a major setback in life.

Everyone here should try to send something, no matter how small, to help out a guy that wrote many tunes we play.

If the group were to contribute, I would put something in the communal pot. Is there anyone in the group who knows the family personally and could deliver it to them?

Forgive my ignorance, what's the relationship between James curnow and Jeff curnow? Father-son?
