Okay, so it’s 2 years later, but I’ve been on the lookout for a good-priced gold 6BS for my 1982 Sovereign baritone to go with the 4AL I use with my 1979 euphonium, when I read the details for the 6BY and discovered it too has a small shank, and a slightly wider bore than the 6BS. So does that make it more suitable for a baritone than a “trombone” mouthpiece?

Well, I decided that the half-price brand new gold 6BY that I saw on eBay was too good to miss so I'm now the proud owner, and very nice it is too with my 1982 Round Stamp Baritone. The bore is slightly wider than my Heritage 6BS making the sound more mellow, which I like, while the rim is more rounded which I'm still getting used to. It makes a good companion for the classic 4AL that I've returned to on my Euphonium after long search that ended for a while with a Heritage 4ABL. Okay, so there's probably no such thing as the perfect mouthpiece, but having a few favourites to rotate around makes you think you're close.
