Nice. I heard it all in person, but nice to hear it again on YouTube. I learned a very good lesson from your playing as this was the first time I have heard you in person. When you play in front of an audience, you stand so that you are facing almost totally stage right. This allows the audience to see YOU instead of standing facing the audience where your horn is in front of you and most of the audience cannot see you. I will remember this next time I am in front of the band. Great job on the whole recital!!

Actually, I don't always do that. But we did sound checks before the recital with my wife in the hall. She had heard Bastien Baumet the prior day in the same room. He had stood in the more conventional fashion, and my wife said there was a lot of articulation "junk" coming into the hall. We have all experienced that, I suspect - I know *I* have. So the angle I played at was to keep the sound more pure. I agree it is nice to give the audience a view of your face! If you are mic'd then I would certainly consider the view. But if you're going all acoustic, you need to get the best sound balance and quality possible.

The only deliberate variation on that was in Hejre Kati where in 8 bars early on I played a subordinate line to the piano, so I turned even more. Unfortunately, it did not change the sound as much as I had hoped (to make it less direct) and I pretty much had my back to the audience! I think the reflective back wall put about as much sound to the audience as my other angle.

    Dave,
I really enjoyed your recital. Hearing all three horns in your capable hands was a good learning experience.
Perhaps I can travel to ITEC next year.

P.S. It was great to see an intro by Dr. Bowman - I just purchased one of his BB2 Euroshank mouthpieces.

I especially liked this phrase from his intro!

"[David] has perhaps one of the most exhaustive sites on the web concerning euphonium and brass playing, and it's been a wonderful influence on many players."

Thank you so much for the recordings! What a treat to listen to all 3 of the instruments in action!
