  1. Best method for 4 valve Euphonium

    Hello,

After years of playing trombone (alto and tenor) I want to learn to play a Valve instrument. I have a 4 valve Euphonium and i am looking for te best method voor this instrument?

    Welcome to the forum!

One way to start is to know the fingerings compared to trombone slide positions:

    Trombone position / euphonium fingering

    1st / open
    2nd / 2
    3rd / 1
4th / 12 is most common, but 3 is often used for lowering pitch slightly
    5th / 23
6th / 4 (13 works for an alternate, but is sharp)
7th / 24 (123 works only in passing notes because it is very sharp)

Do you have a compensating euphonium? If so, it will have short tuning slides on the rear of the valve casings. As you know if you have an F attachment on your trombone, the positions get longer with the valve activated. Same is true with euphonium, but the compensating helps make it simpler. But I'm looking for a good method voor the four valve compensated Euphonium.
